A Boating Family
The Evans Family At The Lake

We purchased our first boat in the summer of 1987. This was our initial venture in finding a fix-er-up-er. The fourteen foot 1974 tri-hull Fabuglas had a 70 horsepower Chrysler outboard. As with any old used boat it took a lot of work to make it go. Uncle Donald helped me rebuild and recover the seats. The boat looked great, but after a while the old engine went. After an expensive rebuild I traded the boat for a brand new 1988 Sea Ray. We still enjoy the Sea Ray and it is in great shape. Chris and Seth learned to water ski as we camped out at Jenny Wiley and Cave Run Lake. Of course with Grayson Lake in our back door we spent plenty of time there also.

Then came Corey.

We often refer to our lives as BC and AC (before Corey and after Corey). Camping was very difficult with a new baby in the family and our outdoor ventures came to a halt.  This is when we started looking into house boating.

We found a 35 foot 1968 Drifter Houseboat with an enchanting interior.  This boat needed some cleaning and painting but was a steal. Actually it was steel and constant painting was needed to keep it from rusting.  We all loved the boat and named it Corey's Playpen.

As the boys grew up we quickly ran out of room and again started shopping.  This time we bought a 1972 50-foot Coleman Sailing houseboat. Soon after purchasing the boat we sprung a small leak around a standpipe and decided to pull the boat out of the water and start a restoration project. It was a huge job but it was well worth it, as this boat became our home away from home. The boat was named "My Three Sons".

Keeping up a steel boat is an every weekend project. After four years we once again went shopping. This brings us to our current boat, which is a 53 foot 1986 aluminum Jamestowner houseboat. Total remodeling included a new outside paint job, interior remodeling and carpet inside and out.
